"Amazing Thailand" Erotic Art Museum by Kamavijitra

Hanuman and Mermaid Suvannamaccha

Hanuman (หนุมาน) learns that Sita (นางสีดา) is being held captive on the island of Sri Lanka. He informs Rama (พระราม), her husband, who orders him to build a causeway to Sri Lanka from India so Rama’s army can attack. Hanuman collects his band of Vanaras and they begin throwing huge boulders into the sea to make a foundation for the causeway.

Hanuman get the order from RAMA to find Sita

After a few days they notice something is wrong and call Hanuman to report. They tell him that each day they throw rocks into the sea and the next day they are gone.
Hanuman asks for volunteers to join him while he instructs the others to continue throwing rocks into the sea. When several volunteers have stepped forward Hanuman leads them into the waves. They find a large number of mermaids underwater. As they watch, a new rock is tossed in. The mermaids living underwater take the rocks and carry them away.

Many mermaids throw rocks into the sea

Hanuman looks for their leader. He spots a lovely mermaid supervising the others. He swims towards her but she skillfully evades him. Time and again he begins an attack but it comes to nothing.

Hanuman finds he is falling in love with the creature. He changes his tactics and begins to silently woo her. She responds to him and soon they are together at the bottom of the sea.

Later, Hanuman asks the mermaid why she is stealing the rocks. She tells him that she is Suvannamaccha, a daughter of Ravana (the demon who had abducted Sita). When Ravana saw Hanuman’s Vanaras building a causeway he instructed Suvannamaccha to stop it. Hanuman tells the mermaid why he is building the causeway. He tells her of the abduction of Queen Sita, the battle between Rama and her father Ravana, how they started to build a bridge, and in consequence was ordered to finish the causeway within seven days or pay with his life.

Suvannamaccha turned to Hanuman and her eyes were filled with love. No more, she said, would she prevent Hanuman from completing his mission. Her mermaids underwater would, in fact, return all the stolen rocks to the causeway.
They parted as lovers part but it was not to be the end for them. Hanuman had left a seed with Suvannamaccha and soon she would give birth to their son named Mudchanu.

Erotic Thai Temple Murals

Thai temple murals typically depict episodes from the Buddha's life or his former lives as described in the Jataka Tales, but to make them relevant to local people many contain scenes from contemporary village life. Some of these scenes are humorous, bawdy, and occasionally somewhat erotic in nature.
Women and female celestials in Thai temple murals often have gravity-defying, melon-like breasts, and are sometimes depicted topless. This isn't really surprising as in former times some village women didn't bother to cover their breasts.

Thai Buddhist Temple Murals

Temple murals were originally a way of bringing the teachings of the Buddha to illiterate lay folk. Traditionally, the west (associated with death) wall of a viharn will feature scenes of beings in other realms as described in the Thai Buddhist text Traiphum Phra Ruang (Three Worlds Cosmology), the east wall will feature a mural of the Buddha subduing Mara prior to his enlightenment, and the lower side walls will be covered with scenes from the Jataka Tales (stories of the Buddha's previous lives) while the upper walls will feature celestials and benign demons facing the principal Buddha image.
Although many temple murals depict episodes from the Buddha's former lives, they often contain peripheral scenes from contemporary village life to make them relevant to local people. Some of these scenes are humorous, bawdy, and occasionally somewhat erotic in nature.

KAMAVIJITRA (The Siam Erotic Art Museum)

Kamavijitra (กามาวิจิตรา)is erotic art, a fine art focusing on the love making of man and woman, same –sex relations, pederasty, and animals, including man and god. This depicts in forms of paintings, sculptures, and potteries.

Erotic art had a long history in Siam. Generally, the Siam’s erotic art can be found in the temple’s murals. Back to the historic time, the paintings were inspired by the lives of people in different periods, which some of them was blended with erotic art. People in that period had a perception of love-making as a natural of man and humor.

Mr. Uthaiphun, Kamavijitra founder

However, the popularity of erotic art had declined since the advent of western cultures, which shared the value that women should cover the clothes up on the body. Therefore, the erotic art of Siam has been perceived as a nasty attitude till present.

“What in my collection must be exclusive erotic pieces of art and I have been collecting for 35 years”, said Mr. Uthaiphun, the owner of Kamavijitra. “For over 35 years, I have been travelled to different countries for business purpose and I have seen numerous kinds of erotic art museum. This questioned me why wouldn’t we have one in Thailand while our erotic art is one of such beautiful and exquisite collections in the world.

Visit and discover a wide range of collections that are sure to entice your senses and excite your mind. See more information at facebook or  kamavijitra website.
